China happens to be the world's biggest auto market, with electric vehicles' sales slated to breach the 1.5 million mark this year. Efforts have been on for four months to zero in on the right candidate, with more than 20 years of experience in the Chinese industry, as it's the second-largest market for Tesla after the U.S., the sources confirmed.

Tesla is planning a fully functional studio, either in Shanghai or Beijing, to cater to the Chinese consumer tastes in the electric cars segment in keeping with CEO Elon Musk's vision. The brand's head hunters have been on the lookout to fill this position with a bi-cultural candidate to bridge the gap between the American and Chinese markets.  However, there's a lack of clarity on the current relations between the two economic superpowers. The incoming U.S. administration's policies are eagerly awaited for more plans to be realized.
